Rukago is a rural village with poor grid access and frequent and prolonged power outages. EKI has realized three solar installations to provide a reliable and sustainable power supply to the Salesian centers. The first installation is connected to the VET school, offices and Salesian community, and the parish. The second installation is connected to the vocational training school where students take practical courses in carpentry, mechanics and welding. The third facility gives light to an orphanage that is run by some sisters of a local congregation who take in 40 orphans.
The social installation will enable them to have a reliable electricity supply for the workshop machines, to have light in the school, the orphanage and the rest of the facilities.
