In collaboration with the Congregation of the Daughters of our Lady of the Garden of Pamplona, and Sister Encarnación Riol, we have performed the electrification project with solar photovoltaic energy of the Maternity and Medical Dispensary that the Sisters manage in the humble neighborhood of Mpasa II, on the outskirts of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

  • NGO; Congregation of Our Lady of the Garden
  • Service: Light and 24/7 electrical supply, and water supply
  • Impact: 36.000 beneficiaries and 650 births yearly
  • PV Installation: 18 panels (4,68 kW)
  • Social Impact: Improvement in sanitation and quality of service, and water supply for the community
  • Project Situation:  Installed and in full operation

Previous Situation; The center was connected to an unreliable electrical grid, with week long blackouts as well as daily cuts, and an old unreliable generator to pump water that the center provides for the community. Many births where performed with cellphone lighting or candles.

In this community live approximately 15,000 people in extreme poverty, without access to reliable drinking water and sanitation. The Sisters provide medical assistance, as well as delivery assistance for pregnant women, and water from their well for the community. But they lacked stable electrical power, so a reliable source of energy was needed for medical instruments, and lighting during nocturnal deliviries.

On April 1st  2017, the photovoltaic equipment needed for the installation was shipped in a container full of humanitarian aid from Pamplona, in collaboration with the NGO “Ayuda Contenedores”.

On July 6th 2017, Eki Foundation commissioned its first solar photovoltaic installation, which began supplying solar energy to the center at Mpasa II. Consisting of 18 panels of 260 Wp each (4.68 kW), 24 batteries of 1000Ah / 2V, and all the necessary electrical equipment, as well as the replacement of all lights for LED lamps.

The success of the installation and commissioning was made possible thanks to the on-site collaboration of Raul Tolosana and his crew of local workers.

In the pictures are Sister Clotilde, Sister Mukta, and Sister Lisi. These sisters manage the center faced by unimaginable daily challenges. We would like to congratulate and encourage them in their important work and help they are providing to the Mpasa II community. The sisters manage the Maternity and Medical Dispensary Center, as well as the Womens Promotion Center, a Nutrition Center and a Preschool, where they offer a daily meal to the students which for some is the only one of the day.
