St. Mary's Fatima Children's Center and Orphanage
St. Mary's Fatima Children's Center is located in the River #2 neighborhood on the outskirts of Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone. The center, which began as a child feeding program, currently houses 25 children between the ages of 3 and 17.
To date, they have relied on a fuel oil generator as their only source of power, as it is off-grid. This system was totally inadequate to meet the needs of the center, and they would spend several days at a time without electricity, greatly complicating assistance to the children.
- NGO: Caritas Freetown and H.H.C.J.
- Service: Electricity and power supply 24/7
- Impact: 25 children
- PV Installation: 24 panels (11.8 kWp), lithium batteries (30.8 kWh)
- Social Impact: improved care for children
With the new solar system installed by EKI, the center now has a continuous and reliable power supply that allows it to carry out activities throughout the day and to keep things like refrigerators and fans running without worrying about power outages.
