HOSPITAL SAN JUAN DE DIOS MABESSENEH Project, Sierra Leone

At St. John of God Hospital in Mabesseneh (Lunsar), Sierra Leone, healthcare is a lifeline for thousands. Managed by the Spanish order San Juan de Dios, the hospital is the leading medical center in the region, providing care to 22000 outpatients and 4,300 inpatients in 2023.
Access to a steady power supply was one of the hospital’s biggest challenges. In Lunsar, electricity depended on a diesel generator that operated only a few hours in the evening—and not always reliably—forcing the hospital to consume vast amounts of diesel to sustain its operations.
Now, thanks to the largest solar energy system ever designed and installed by EKI, everything has changed: the hospital has a stable, clean, and renewable energy source, ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services and reducing dependence on expensive fossil fuels. By bringing solar energy to St. John of God Hospital, EKI is not just powering a facility, it is saving lives, strengthening healthcare, and transforming an entire community.
